About

About Knights Plaza- “The Then and The Now…”

Over the past 10 years UCF has experienced unprecedented growth in its notoriety and student enrollment.  It became clear that with this tremendous growth the school had outgrown its arena which had served the key purposes of hosting Athletic events and Convocation Ceremonies for UCF graduates.  There was no doubt that the need was great for a new venue, and although there was broad support for it, the traditional financial model for constructing and operating a world class Arena was not feasible.  However, innovative thinking on the part of the University leadership and its Board of Trustees lead to the creation of a brand new area of campus called Knights Plaza that would be the financial support infrastructure to help underwrite the new Arena and its adjacent facilities.

Knights Plaza was developed as a contemporary on-campus neighborhood for students to “live, learn, and play” in a unique environment that would feature a variety of  housing, retail, social, and entertainment opportunities; a place to build on school spirit and pride today, and  a visible recruiting tool for the students of tomorrow.  The Knights Plaza message to students, alumni and all who visit campus is clear: “This is not your father’s UCF”.  While the physical assets of Knights Plaza are built to impress, equally important is what the visitor experience is. With that in mind, we developed this vision statement to guide us as we create and deliver that experience.

“Knights Plaza is the ‘Campus Town Center’ where students live, learn and play.”

“It is an ever-changing, easily moldable, always exciting, and somewhat surprising place where the UCF community and its neighbors come together to be entertained, to compete and to celebrate.”

“Discover” and “Explore” are terms that not only describe the essence of the Knights Plaza experience, but also the qualities and desires of those who participate in it.   At Knights Plaza, you’ll find retail, restaurant and service locations, The Towers (student housing), CFE Arena, The Venue and great outdoor spaces to mix, mingle and just hang out.  Knights Plaza is the place to “color outside the lines”.

Knights Plaza features a collection of shops and restaurants lining East and West Plaza Streets flanking both sides of the arena.
